Gareth Malone's Military Wives Choir

Posted on 1:55pm Thursday 8th Dec 2011

We're a big fan of Gareth Malone and have loved his previous choir projects such as 'Unsung Town', 'Boys don't sing' and 'Gareth Malone goes to Glyndebourne', but this has to be his biggest accomplishment yet. In the fourth series of BBC2's The Choir, Gareth formed The Military Wives Choir to give the wives and girlfriends an opportunity to shine and to help them through the tough time of separation they all go through while their husbands/partners are deported for tour of duty in Afghanistan. The series ended with an amazing performance of Wherever You Are in the Royal Albert Hall at the Festival of Remembrance. The song is by Royal Wedding composer Paul Mealor and the lyrics are formed from letters to and from the service men and their wives on a 6 month tour of duty in Afghanistan. Tissues at the ready! The recording has now been made into a charity single and you can pre order it here to get it to Christmas number 1! What better way to support the troops. We also couldn't help but notice Gareth's knitted Old Sea dog hoodie lookalike in the video!
